A strap clamp is a tool for gluing frames, allowing you to temporarily fix parts and ensure their mutual pressure for gluing or joining with fasteners. The strap clamp belongs to the category of hand tools for woodworking. Used for assembling frame structures from MDF profile or other material.
Design and principle of operation of a strap clamp
The belt clamp is a system consisting of a durable nylon belt, corner stops and a locking mechanism. The power elements are made of metal and covered with nylon to prevent damage to the fixed part.
The device grips the workpiece from four corners, providing uniform pressure on all sides. Special stops on the underside of the corner grips prevent slipping and help level the workpiece in a horizontal plane.
The quick-release metal clamp tightens the belt, providing strong clamping of the connected elements.
Technical characteristics of belt clamps
- Power parameters. This is the maximum compression force that a belt clamp can develop. It depends on the thickness and strength of the tape, as well as on the design of the clamping mechanism.
- Tape length. Determines the maximum size of the part or the thickness of the materials to be joined, which are fixed with a tape clamp. The length of the tapes varies from 0.5 to 5 meters.
- Tape width. It affects the contact area and the distribution of compression force. Standard values are 25, 50 and 75 mm. To work with fragile or thin materials, wider belts are needed.
- Tape material. The most popular ones are made of steel and polypropylene. Steel ones provide greater strength, polypropylene ones provide less weight and better corrosion protection.
- Grip design. Strap clamps are equipped with various types of clamping mechanisms: eccentric, screw... Each has its own advantages in smoothness of adjustment, ease of use and reliability of fixation.
- Additional accessories. Some models of frame clamps are equipped with replaceable nozzles, stops, and swivel heads, which expand the scope of the tool.

When purchasing a clamp, pay attention to the following important aspects:
- no damage - the instrument should not have chips, cracks or various types of defects;
- equipment - special gaskets, which can be included in the delivery kit or sold separately, will help to avoid defects and damage to the processed parts; in addition, manufacturers offer additional accessories, for example, a T-shaped handle for adjusting the clamping force);
- operating parameters - they must be selected taking into account your tasks and working conditions (clamping force, tool weight, availability of corrosion protection, etc.);
- manufacturer's reputation - the name of the manufacturing company on the market or among professionals will be an additional guarantee of purchasing a high-quality tool.
